With over 85 million attendees in the UK each year, the events industry has incredible power to inspire, influence, and impact communities.
As we prepare for our CONFEX 2025 panel The Social Responsibility Blueprint: Engaging with Communities through Events we’ve been diving deep into what social justice truly means for the events industry.
In honour of World Day of Social Justice, we want to share a glimpse of the powerful conversations we’ve been having with Camilla Marcus-Dew, Francesca Harris, and Jimmy Garcia behind the scenes.
Here’s what we've been talking about:
The Link Between Environmental and Social Sustainability: To achieve net zero, we need to think beyond carbon. Social equity and environmental sustainability go hand in hand. We can’t reach net zero without doing both. This means considering the social impact of our environmental decisions, from sourcing local vendors to ensuring ethical supply chains.
Equity in Events; It’s About Everyone: An important takeaway from our discussions was the stark difference in experiences between attendees and crew members. Equity doesn’t always include the crew. While events often prioritise inclusive and accessible experiences for attendees, crew members are frequently overlooked. Shouldn’t the same standards of equity and well-being apply to everyone involved?
Pushing for Events as a Force for Good: Social responsibility isn’t just about charity or donating leftovers. It’s also about buying better so we can donate better quality items. It’s about being intentional with the choices we make and the people we choose to work with—because every decision has an impact.
Join us at CONFEX 2025 as we bring these vital conversations to the stage. Let’s rethink equity, champion social justice, and put the ‘S’ in ESG where it belongs—at the forefront.
